1828 art show

Hey everyone!
It's be a month I've been off blogging. I was quite wrapped up in makin' lots of art- the best reason for not spending more time blogging! My husband Aaron and I created work for a show we had a Joe Bar in Seattle. Here is a synopsis of the show and some images of the work! The show is up until October 8th at Joe Bar ( 810 E. Roy, Seattle, WA 98102) Some if you are in town, come and check it out while you still can. Enjoy!

1828" is a collection of illustrations and comics based on the house built by Aaron's great grandfather Marvin E. Pack. Two long generations of Mormon relatives inhabited the house until Aaron's parents took over. Years of de-cluttering revealed many bizarre religious and antique occupational relics. The house invokes its own mythology by leaving a trail of such esoteric delights. Aaron and Jessixa explore the visual vocabulary inspired by this very real Salt Lake City house and expand on it's oddities through a series of comics and ephemera.

Weekend sketching

Howdy folks!
This weekend has been jam packed with inspiration and drawing! Two of my favorite things. First it started off with attending Short Run. The Seattle small press show featuring mostly comics and some zines. I was there for over four hours and it wasn't enough time to see it all. I love making comics and have had a long break from making minis due to trying to devote all my comics time to my graphic novel. But I was sooooo inspired to get back into making smaller one off comics that I've got some big ideas hat I know I won't be able to shelf for long. My goal for 2013 is to have a table at Short Run with a some new comics and perhaps even segments from my graphic novel. I'm thrilled. I just need to find about 20 more hours a week to get all my stuff done! No problem though, right?

I've also been making some preliminary sketches for an illustration I'm submitting for the Tomie dePaola competition through SCBWI. This award includes a full paid trip and entrance to the winter conference in New York. I REALLLLLLLY want to go to this and would be so honored to win the award. So I'm going to try very hard to submit the best illustration possible.

Lastly, I've been working on another picture book concept. I'm in the early stages of re-writes and thumbnails, but it feels good to be writing stories that really connect to my visual language, which I've had trouble doing in the past. I'll post more on that as it comes but I will just say this, it involves my two favorite badger brothers Tic and Tac!

I know all of this sounds like a lot, but I just can't pass up inspired ideas when they present themselves to me. I also think adding more fun and unrestricted comics work is just what I need to help with my storytelling and illustration with my picture books as well as my graphic novel.

So much to do! But so excited to do it all!

Jessixa.com is Alive!

Hey All!
I wanted to announce that my website is back! It's been undergoing some retooling for the past six months or so, and now it is complete! It's been beautifully redesigned by my wonderful husband, Aaron Bagley- for whom I am sooooo grateful for all of his hard work to get it running. I'm also very proud of my little animations (made by moi) that are non-flash so they are friendly for all viewing platforms!

So enough jibba jabba- Check out my website!

ALSO- just a little reminder that I am still doing my daily hot dog journal website "Diary of a Wiener"-so if you want a daily dose of hot dog and waxing the philosophic, start following me!

Illustration Friday: Separated

Hello all!
It's late in the week, but I wanted to post for this week's theme. "Separated." When i hear this word I think about things wanting to be separated by they can't be. I was very into the topic of conjoined twins for a long time. I think there is something very fascinating about two being fused together, sharing, loving, experiencing things always together, but they are still separate beings. Anyhoo, enjoy:
